ReadyBrake™ Towed Vehicle Supplemental Brake System
Our Ready Brake is the most simple and effective auxiliary braking system on the market today. This tried-and-true system is compatible with any hitch-mounted tow bar and virtually any tow vehicle. The ready brake is a hitch-mounted surge brake that provides instant and fully proportional braking to your toad vehicle. The Ready Brake does not rely on electronic components that can fail. This is a purely mechanical solution that delivers proportional braking to your toad vehicle. The Ready Brake also includes a dash light that turns on when the brakes on the toad are applied. The Ready Brake will help you avoid the high cost and complications associated with other “brake in a box” and “progressive braking” systems. Once installed, attaching and detaching the system is very fast and simple. Please contact us if you have any questions about our Ready Brake system!
New for 2025: An improved system for routing our surge braking cable!
The cable no longer needs to be routed through the firewall which could be complicated for some vehicles. The cable now routes through the floorboard of your tow vehicle for a much cleaner and simpler install for any tow vehicle. This improved design now comes standard with any 2-in-1 tow bars and the Ready Brake.
Each system comes complete with:
- The ReadyBrake fits into a 2" Receiver hitch
- Proportional and reliable surge braking
- New for 2025- Our braking system is now even easier to install! Drilling a small hole in the firewall is no longer necessary.
- Adjustable sling cable
- Internal cable w/conduit and conduit floor mount
- Brake pedal brackets
- Easy-to-read instructions
- DL-300 Tow Brake Dash Monitor System
- Made in the U.S.A. with a Lifetime Warranty.
Occasionally, knockoff NSA products have appeared on Amazon. We will not extend our lifetime warranty to these items made in China.
Highly Recommended add-on product: Our Ready Stop breakaway protection– This will stop the toad in a breakaway event and is needed to tow legally in many States and Canada.
Vehicle note: For the Ford C-Max hybrid Energi you must pull fuse #9 to disconnect the vacuum pump. In testing, this fixes this car's problem and makes it towable with the Ready Brake.
A supplemental tow brake and breakaway device is required by law in most States and Provinces when towing a vehicle 4 wheels down.
This Ready Brake will work with any tow bar with a 2-inch receiver.
The Ready Brake System has a Lifetime Guarantee!
We aim to ship your order as quickly as possible, during the busiest times of the season, tow bar manufacturing lead times can be 3 weeks. If an item is not going to ship quickly, we will be in contact via phone or email. Please reach out if you have any questions on lead times.

We thought we were having some problems with our brute elite and on our way home from Texas to Minnesota decided to make a stop there to have them check it out. We were blown away by how responsive they were and went through our tow bar within an hour. Then they talked to us about what problems we thought we had. What a great team!! If we had any doubts about NSA we sure don’t now and will recommend them to all our toads friends! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Purchased my 1st Ready Brute from NSA in 2006. We pulled a Saturn Vue and later a Ford Edge. I just replaced with a new "Elite" a couple months ago. There was nothing wrong with the old equipment, it performed flawlessly from day 1. I find the brake system to be less invasive than some of the other forms of aux brake. Also very easy to set up a new vehicle to tow. Yes I would recommend.

This is an ingenious design...excellent product for those wanting a dead simple braking system and tow bar in one. I cannot say enough good things about this robust and marvelous tow bar, and while I was using it, it performed very well.

I've had my ReadyBrute since 2007 and towed my Jeep Cherokee about 50K miles with it. I really like it. I live in Colorado and constantly traverse steep grades. It has always worked flawlessly. It brakes just the right amount...never to much and never too little. I've actually towed the Jeep more miles than I have driven it over that time!

Product quality is excellent, and apparent immediately upon opening the box. Also, I chose to work directly with the company, and they were great. I had a unique situation where I couldn't use the company mount on my Jeep (due to having a plow mount already), so I provided dimensions for my Jeep's D-rings (see attached picture) and the company made a custom fit mount. If I recall correctly, I don't think there was even an extra cost for customizing the mount. I didn't really have any problems, but I know the company would have been super supportive if I had needed anything. The connection system is very well designed, and easy to align. My sixteen year old son typically does the connection both ways 100% himself. After it is connected, there is a connection for the lighting, one to activate the brakes, and one as a safety that will lock the tow vehicle's brake if it someone got loose. Last year was the first towing our Jeep Unlimited. We towed from CT to the rockies, spent two months cruising around the Rocky Mountains, and then towed back from UT to CT again. We've been doing these trips for five years now, but this is the first time we towed a vehicle -- it was a massive improvement for the trip. I definitely recommend based on quality, connection design, and company support.

I had mine coming on ten years and as you described simple, effective, & safe yet cost effective. No external power, vacuum or air pressure required for normal operation. Just connect the cable from the bar to the toad and your brake ready to head out. And don't for get to buy a break away kit.
